As your Councillor, I haven’t just made promises; I’ve delivered results. From saving Mount Albert’s downtown to protecting our rural communities, expanding broadband access, and fighting for Lake Simcoe, here’s a record of the work I’ve personally driven for East Gwillimbury. While some candidates talk about results, I actually have something to point to!
Saving the Heart of Mount Albert: Bringing DUCA to Town
When TD Bank pulled out of Mount Albert in 2018, it threatened to gut the downtown core. A bank isn’t just a service; it’s an anchor, a destination that draws people into the surrounding businesses. When a local merchant came to me, worried about what the closure would mean for the community, I got to work. Drawing on a personal connection to DUCA Credit Union’s board chair, I helped broker introductions and worked through months of meetings and negotiations. By the end of the year, DUCA had purchased the old TD building and opened its doors, keeping Mount Albert’s downtown alive.
Delivering Rural Broadband
Improving broadband access, especially in rural EG, was a commitment I made when I first ran for Council, and one I’ve followed through on. After being elected, we formed a Broadband Advisory Committee to tackle the problem head-on. We streamlined the Town’s internal permitting process to speed up infrastructure upgrades, and partnered with YorkNet and Galaxy Fibre to expand fibre network coverage across the municipality. By the end of 2026, an estimated 98% of East Gwillimbury will have access to quality high-speed internet.
Shutting Down Illegal Grow Operations
In the spring of 2020, residents began noticing greenhouses appearing across rural East Gwillimbury, greenhouses that turned out to be illegal cannabis operations tied to organized crime. I worked closely with York Regional Police and Town staff to coordinate a response, and together we shut down all 13 operations, restoring safety and peace of mind to the rural communities affected
Fighting for Lake Simcoe
In early 2022, I joined like-minded councillors from across the Lake Simcoe watershed to lobby the federal government for meaningful investment in the lake’s future. That advocacy paid off: the April federal budget included $19.6 million for a new Freshwater Action Fund covering Lake Simcoe, on top of an earlier $16 million commitment toward a phosphorus recycling facility, critical investments in protecting one of our region’s most important natural resources.
