East Gwillimbury

CAMPAIGN
PILLARS

Three commitments. One vision. A plan to build a safer, stronger, more affordable East Gwillimbury.

1 Community Safety

Safe homes. Safe streets. No compromises.

Community safety is the foundation of everything else: a thriving town, a welcoming town, a town people choose and stay in. Every resident deserves to feel secure in their home, on their street, and in our shared public spaces. As East Gwillimbury grows, so do the demands on emergency services, traffic enforcement, mental health supports, and the infrastructure that holds neighbourhoods together. Meeting those demands isn’t optional. It’s leadership.

Commitments

  • Deliver on a fourth Fire Station for the community of Sharon.
  • Continue expanding the full-time firefighter complement in our Emergency Services Department.
  • Upon election, request membership on the York Region Police Services Board, so EG has a seat at the table where decisions get made.
  • Pursue new and effective traffic calming measures on our community streets.

2 Economic Development

A strong, diversified tax base — not one built on your back.

Relying too heavily on residential property taxes isn’t a funding model; it’s a pressure valve. It limits our ability to invest in critical services and exposes residents to the full brunt of economic volatility. The answer is a balanced mix of commercial, industrial, and institutional development that generates stable, long-term revenue, funding the roads, parks, and emergency services our community deserves without perpetually raising residential rates.

Commitments

  • Expand the Economic Development department to actively attract commercial and industrial business to town.
  • Maximize the full economic spin-off from the newly announced hospital, a generational opportunity we cannot waste.
  • Ensure “Advantage EG” is a genuine operational commitment, not just a slogan, backed by staff across all departments, working at peak efficiency to attract and secure new business.

3 Affordability

East Gwillimbury should be a place anyone can afford to stay.

Affordability also means improving access to local jobs, transit, child care, and services, so residents spend less time commuting and more time living their lives here. As someone with a career in financial oversight and risk management, I know how to make responsible decisions that protect taxpayers while investing in what the future requires.

Commitments

  • Protect EG’s position as having the lowest relative property taxes in York Region.
  • Reduce or waive fees for essential permits; small home repairs shouldn’t require a budget line.
  • Insist that York Region expand meaningful transit options for East Gwillimbury residents.
  • Keep recreation fees low and expand subsidized membership access.
  • Work with the library to expand its lending offerings; libraries are affordability infrastructure.
