Scott Crone, Candidate for Mayor of East Gwillimbury, Ontario (“we,” “our,” “us,” or “the Campaign”)
is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to this website and of individuals who interact with our campaign. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Website Usage Data
When you visit our website, we automatically collect certain information through Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and how you arrived at our site. We use this to understand site performance and, through the Meta Pixel, to measure and improve the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram, including tracking specific actions such as clicking “Donate” or “Sign Up” so we can show relevant campaign ads to people who have engaged with our site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage how Meta uses your data for advertising through your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences.
2. Volunteer Sign-Ups
If you complete our Volunteer form (hosted via Google Forms), we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, phone number, and any comments you submit. This information is kept in a secure campaign database and is accessible only to authorized campaign staff and volunteers involved in coordinating volunteer activities. We ask anyone with access to this data to keep it confidential and use it only for campaign purposes.
3. Donations
If you make a donation through our Donate page, your payment is processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor; we do not directly collect or store your full payment card details. We receive your name, address, email, and donation amount for record-keeping and to meet our legal filing obligations.
Please note: under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, candidates for municipal office in Ontario, including Mayor, are required to file a campaign financial statement with the Town Clerk. Once filed, financial statements and related records become public records that may be inspected by any member of the public at the Clerk’s office, regardless of donation amount. Contributions to municipal candidates cannot be made by corporations or trade unions, only individuals ordinarily resident in Ontario (and the candidate or their spouse) may contribute, subject to the contribution limits set by the Act. By donating, you acknowledge that your contribution and related information may become part of the public record in accordance with the Act.
4. Voters’ List (if applicable)
If our campaign receives a copy of the municipal voters’ list from the Town Clerk (compiled and maintained by Elections Ontario as of January 1, 2024, and provided to candidates under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996), that information will be used strictly for purposes permitted under the Act, such as campaign communication and canvassing and will not be used for any commercial purpose or shared outside the campaign. It will be securely stored and disposed of at the end of the period permitted for its use under the Act.
5. Third-Party Services
Our website and campaign operations use the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager — website analytics
- Google Forms — volunteer sign-ups
- Stripe — donation processing
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel — advertising measurement and retargeting on Facebook/Instagram
6. Data Retention and Disposal
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. Campaign financial and voter-related records are retained in accordance with the retention and destruction requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. At the end of the applicable retention period, physical records are securely destroyed and electronic records are deleted from campaign devices, which are password-protected.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You may:
- Unsubscribe from campaign emails/texts at any time (see Consent to Communications below)
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to legal record-keeping obligations under the MEA (for example, public financial disclosure records cannot be deleted before their required retention period ends)
8. Consent to Communications
By submitting the Volunteer form, donating, or otherwise providing your contact information, you consent to being contacted by the Campaign in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). You may withdraw consent at any time.

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date.
